It occurs to me that I have almost no posts on my tumblr. Hmmn. Not really sure what to do about that, honestly…

Yaay, reblogging because I’m transgender.

Just two adorable butch gals looking very happy and being nekkid together. Another instance of tattooing that I think looks great, and another image stolen from r/dyke.

Seriously, silly folks, cheer up, stop bickering!

Lolwut? I linked to this from the tvtropes page on “Narm” in advertisement. It’s just laughably bad, misinformed, and seems to be doing that age-old thing of mistaking gay people for sex fiends. Silly 1950s PSAs, why you so dumb?

Here, have a cute girl with lots of piercings, tattoos, and brightly-coloured hair. Not usually one for the look, but hey! She’s cute! Stolen from reddit.com/r/dyke

So, just heard some old broadcast of what I guess was a sports radio show from last year, discussing a 57-year-old transgender woman golfer who basically had to sue to be allowed to play in the LPGA tour rather than the men’s tour. The broadcast talked about how after a year on estrogen, pretty much any biological advantage a transwoman could have would be gone. Then the host talked about how another transwoman who used to play tennis back in the 70’s and who is now a doctor disagrees, due to some skeletal differences and whatnot, and from that point on the “neutrality” of the segment kinda drizzled away; the piece ended in the broadcaster saying that she thought that “the ‘so-few’ cases of transgender athletes” shouldn’t perhaps be allowed to play on the right team; that it wouldn’t be fair to some “normal” girl who lost out on her spot on the team because someone whose biological structure made them “inherently better” at it got the spot. The host rounded out her no-longer-neutral segment saying that what’s really needed is for there to be an entire separate league for trans athletes. REALLY? That… That wouldn’t go well. For one, it’s denying the athletes recognition as the proper gender, and for another, it reeks suspiciously of segregation. “All you trans folks. Get over there in the corner and wait your turn, the ‘REAL’ men/women are playing.” …yeeeeaaahhhno. Sounds like a shitty idea, sports(?) broadcaster lady.

Or maybe it’s the estrogen and the 5AM talking.

So, as people may or may not know, there’s been a bit of controversy over Sony making it so that you have to agree never to sue them or else you get banned from the Playstation Network, but this isn’t about that. This is about the fact that you are strictly not permitted to change your listed gender on you profile. I noticed that the option was locked in the account settings on my PS3, but I wanted to change it, so I sent customer support an email detailing my circumstances, telling them that I’m a male to female trans person, just wanting to make everything across the board a little more official, and politely asked them if there was any way I could get it changed.

What I got in reply was a cut and dry, slightly condescending message saying that the gender field can never ever ever be changed because, and get this, it “constitutes a security risk”. A security. Risk. I… I fail to see how that makes even the slightest bit of sense. And then it went on to tell me that the only thing I could do was to make an entirely new account. Of course, that means losing my old profile name, and all the couple hundred dollars worth of content I’d bought. That’s not anything approaching a real option, so I guess I’m stuck with a great big blue nametag and label reading “Male” on my account forever.

Thanks for all the help, Sony.

So, I got Dead Island, the game that was so highly hyped and stuff, the game whose first trailer honest-to-Cthulhu made me tear up and cry a little because it was so masterfully done, and…. it’s mediocre. People are comparing it to Dead Rising, or Left 4 Dead, and even one said it’s like Fallout, but in all honesty, this game is pretty much Borderlands with slightly modified character archetypes and a crapload of zombies.

The gameplay’s not bad, though having to get new weapons ALL THE TIME, with no way to maintain them in the field, gets old pretty fast.

I’m not very far in, I’ve been side-questing for hours, but the actual story seems a bit stiff and rigid. And the opening sequence was jarringly full of blurriness and rap compared to the trailer, with its clarity and tearful piano tune.

The mechanics are pretty good, there’s lots of different attacks, and killing zombies is pretty fun. However, it’d’ve been nice if there was some way to block. Even a little decrease in the amount of damage taken would be nice, since HP is hard to come by, and EVERYTHING SMASHES YOUR FACE OFF. Also. Weapons have too-short of range. But whatevers.

Graphics… Meh. Clipping through things, everyone looks old and medicated into oblivion. Moving on.

Voice acting… everyone’s an Aussie reading from a card. that is all.

Overall, it’s fun, I’ve been playing it all day, but it’s nothing close to the hype. I give it a 7, for what it’s worth.
